Silo Wellness is partnering with the Bob Marley Group of Companies to launch a line of functional mushroom products called Marley One. In March, Silo Wellness announced a multi-year licensing agreement with the family of global reggae icon Bob Marley for the exclusive worldwide rights to brand, market and sell a distinct product line of functional and psychedelic mushrooms.

“Mushrooms have been used for centuries in Jamaica”, said Cedella Marley, CEO of Bob Marley Group of Companies and daughter of Bob Marley. Marley stated that she uses the products herself. “It is an important part of my daily regimen…I drop a bit of it in my Marley coffee”, she said.

Additionally, Marley noted that she believes everyone should be able to experience natural healthcare.  “As a family, we seek to use our platform to inspire positive change, and the launch of the Marley One mushroom brand, in collaboration with a pioneering company like Silo Wellness, allows us to do just that by marrying ancient wisdom with modern science. It is our wish that these products will empower people to experience oneness with nature and the universe at large – and ultimately, achieve greater self-actualization,” said Marley.

“We feel like we have come close to what he embodies in the product we put to the market,” said Gordon, when asked about how Bob Marley’s legacy is reflected in the line of products.

Gordon also expressed assurance that the production of the line included Jamaican workers. “We have trained people locally to cultivate mushrooms, by bringing in people”, said Gordon. He mentioned that the company went in search of local Rastafarians to be instrumental parts of the Silo Wellness retreats. Silo Wellness offers a growing portfolio of functional mushroom products, psychedelic wellness retreats in Jamaica and Oregon and  cultivation of psychedelic mushrooms and truffles in Jamaica.

Douglas Gordon, CEO of Silo Wellness, when asked about the legality of the mushroom products in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean, reiterated that the products were made with functional mushrooms and not psychedelic mushrooms. He stated that the Ministry of Health has not issued a response.

Gordon also stated that the medical community is in the early stages of education with regard to functional and psychedelic mushrooms, and it was hoped that the launch of the products would  promote education about these natural remedies. “What I am very proud of with Silo Wellness is that we’re looking at ways to transfer knowledge and expertise” said Gordon.
